Artist Statement
My relationship with art began in college. To fulfill a remaining graduation requirement, I casually chose an art class: metalsmithing. The experience basically changed the direction of my life and I'm still on that path.
Prone to anxiety, it was when I started making art that my mind and body were calm. It was a peace I didn't know I was privy to until I opened the door to art.
The journey with art started with metalsmithing. Shortly after, I was given a manual camera. Photography introduced me to the infinite stories each moment had to offer, and that was 10x when I started to develop images in the darkroom. I fell in love with the power the camera had to slow down life and capture quiet beauty, and was equally captivated by the process of the darkroom. Again, something new was created within me. One day, I picked up a paint set at a local Dutch market in Holland. I began to play with the inviting world of colors, and have never stopped.
Each piece of art I create creates a part of me.
Art is a non-verbal conversation, shared by the viewer and creator. What a precious gift it is to communicate without noise or hurry or words. Sublime still movements are born within us, from art itself.
I fell in love with the power of the art-making process: what it allowed me to express, and the effect it had on my mind; who it allowed me to be and become.
Because of this, I created the Art with Intention curriculum, a workshop series that I have been sharing for over a decade. Sharing tools to help individuals and teams find calm and cultivate community. I share these modules for free because I think everyone should have access to the power of art as a transformative process.
I hope you enjoy my artwork. I invite you to connect with me if you have any questions about me, my process, or my work.
Much love, E
