The Art of Elizabeth Tuckwell

Letters to Vincent

Letters to Vincent is where I write to one of my many inspirations, Vincent Van Gogh. He has been a significant influence to me on my journey as an artist. His ability to transform his experiences into works of art and his letters to his brother Theo, have a deep place in my heart.  There are others, Mark Rothko, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, Lee Kransner, Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky and more. Each of these artists have helped me on my journey into the self-taught unknown world of my own artwork. Some giving me permission to delve deep into colors, delve deep into the spiritual side, delve deep into passion.  It is with Vincent that I speak to most often when I paint. His quote “There are no accidents in painting”, is a mantra I often repeat to myself and to others when I teach them to explore their own styles.  I have been speaking to him for so long I jokingly call him Vinny. In the letters below I begin to share some of the daily stories as an artist and a mother and a woman building a business that I share with Vinny.
